HEIDI HERMEL, NP

THE SKIN CLINIC MED SPA

Starting her work with KLC, Heidi focused on three critical areas: personal professional development, team building, and leadership infrastructure that would allow her to truly transition into a CEO role. Today, Heidi leads a culture where "employees want to come to work, and they're excited and passionate." Her husband quit his job to help with the business. Her oldest daughter wants to join the practice after nursing school.

Challenges

  • Over-reliance on Heidi as both provider and operator.

  • Gaps in leadership development and team structure.

  • Inconsistent systems leading to operational overwhelm.

  • A desire to grow sustainably without burnout.

Solutions

Through the POP Aesthetic Leadership Academy, KLC partnered with Heidi to architect a leadership cadence, define roles and scorecards, and roll out training and SOPs that standardized care and communication. We established data rhythms (dashboards and reviews) to guide prioritization and investment, and we coached the transition from provider-centric days to CEO-level focus—culminating in a successful facility upgrade and a practice built to scale.

01

Compounding Revenue Growth

Transitioning from founder-run to CEO-led unlocked scale: revenue grew from $600,000 to $8,000,000+ in five years, reflecting disciplined, compounding growth rather than short-term spikes.

02

Developing Offers & Revenue Streams A Stronger, Accountable Team

With leadership development and clear roles, the team expanded from 2 to 9. Training systems, SOPs, and scorecards created consistency across the floor and removed single point bottlenecks.

03

Transitioning to a CEO Role

Stepping fully into the CEO seat gave Heidi margin to lead the business—more strategic time, a calmer operating cadence, and the confidence to make data-driven decisions.

What happens when a skilled clinician realizes expertise isn't enough to lead?

Heidi Hermel had mastered patient care. With 15+ years as a nurse practitioner, she could deliver flawless treatments and build genuine connections with every client. But when it came to leading a business? She felt completely out of her depth.

"I felt like I was on a hamster wheel every day of the week," Heidi says. Five years ago, she was operating as a solopreneur with one assistant, working IN her business instead of ON it.

Despite her clinical expertise, the transition from skilled provider to confident CEO felt impossible. Two months after opening The Skin Clinic in January 2020, COVID-19 hit and forced an 11-week shutdown. During that uncertainty, Heidi made a pivotal decision: transition from a hybrid medical/aesthetic practice to aesthetics- only.

When she reopened, demand exploded—but so did the chaos. "I didn't realize when I hired somebody that my life would get much harder. It was chaotic," she admits. The very success she'd worked for was threatening to destroy what she'd built. Heidi was introduced to KLC through an industry colleague exactly one year after opening. She knew she needed help scaling in areas where she was struggling: team building, marketing, sales, and client communication.

I realized if I wanted to continue to grow my staff, I needed to learn the tools to be an effective leader

Invest In Yourself

Heidi's journey from overwhelmed provider to confident CEO proves that leadership skills can be systematically developed. By investing in personal professional development and learning to scale through assets instead of hustle, she built something sustainable and legacy-worthy.

The bottom line?"As scary as it is, the best thing I ever did was to take this leap," Heidi reflects. Sometimes confident leadership means taking the risk to invest in yourself before you feel ready.
